The Work-based Education Research Centre (WERC) at Victoria University was officially established in May 2008.  The Centre provides the research and development underpinnings needed to build world class innovation in vocational and work-based education at Victoria University and to contribute more generally to knowledge and policy development in these areas.

The role of WERC is to:

  • Provide opportunities for staff, including VE staff, to develop skills in research into learning for and in the workplace
  • Attract research students many of whom will be VU staff
  • Increase the university’s reputation by publishing and otherwise contributing to scholarship, policy development and practice in vocational and work-based education
  • Lead the development of a national and international perspective on vocational and work-based education at VU by developing links with a network of partners across Australia and beyond
  • Obtain external funding to support as much of its research as possible
  • Analyse and disseminate information on emerging international workforce and training trends in order to support innovations in vocational and work-based education within VU
